With the term of President Pranab Mukherjee ending next month, the election for next President of India is fast approaching.
The NDA alliance is consulting its allies on the choice of next Presidential candidate. An election, if necessitated, shall be held on July 17, source noted.
The committee of the ruling party BJP, for carrying out deliberations with the allies over reaching a consensus on candidate, is composed of Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley, and Rajnath Singh.
Party President Amit Shah has also been playing a prominent role, putting off a trip to the North-East, and also postponed a crucial party leadership meet.
According to sources, the name of Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu has been proposed, as a choice of NDA candidate.
