The operations of Jawaharlal Nehru port have been hit by ransomware attack that reportedly started from Ukraine, and has hit the entire globe, sources reported.
As many as 300,000 computers were said to be affected by the ransomware, with many banking corporations and companies getting hit. One of the three terminals of the Mumbai port was shut down completely.
The hackers have shown their steadfastness in spearheading a campaign of extortion, and have proven themselves capable of thwarting government networks, and maligning critical infrastructure.
The latest malware includes the “Eternal Blue” code, that was also an essential component of the “WannaCry” bug that hit last month, sources recalled.
It included code known as “Eternal Blue,” which cyber security experts widely believe was stolen from the US National Security Agency (NSA) and was also used in last month’s ransomware attack, named “WannaCry.”
Meanwhile, experts warned the companies were not doing enough to fix the problem at their end. The remarks came from Kevin Johnson, CEO of cyber security firm Secure Ideas.
