An Uber cab driver in Australia has been sentenced to around six years in prison for raping a girl who was in an inebriated condition.
Muhammad Naveed was handed the sentence for raping the victim at eastern suburbs of Sydney in a side street, on the eastern suburbs. He would be serving at least six years and four months, sources added.
The victim had reportedly left a bar, and had got into the cab, saying it was supposedly to take her home, according to her statement before the jury.
According to the statement, the victim was asked if she would take the back seat, and she agreed in principle. She added she could not keep her eyes open and went to sleep, according to crown prosecutor James Trevallion. When the victim woke up, she found Naveed on her top, and could not gather strength to push him off.
“He clearly took advantage in the most terrible way of a vulnerable young lady,” Judge Deborah Payne said.
Though Naveed and the defence maintained that the act was a “consensual”, the prosecutor could not find enough backing, apart from the fact that driver was not aroused enough after a mutual ‘go-ahead’ between the two.
